About the Role
The Driller’s Assistant assists the Driller in all
aspects of mineral exploration drilling
operations. This entry-level position involves
physical labour, equipment handling, and
strict adherence to safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Support drilling operations by:
Assisting in drill setup and teardown
Moving equipment, rods, casing, and core boxes
Handling core samples: removing from tubes, boxing, labeling, and transporting
Mixing and handling drill fluids and lubricants
Setting casing and managing water lines and supply pumps
Operating and maintaining hoses, winches, pumps, and support equipment
Perform site maintenance:
Keep drill pad clean, safe, and organized
Ensure platforms, walkways, and handrails are secure and clear of snow or debris
Drain and store hoses properly
Dispose of garbage, rags, and waste materials appropriately
Conduct and document daily inspections of:
Pickup trucks
Side-by-sides and snowmobiles
Water pump shacks and other assigned equipment
Assist in basic equipment repair and maintenance
Participate in daily hazard assessments and drill inspections with the Driller
Maintain clean and hygienic living quarters; follow all camp rules and policies
Requirements
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Basic math and measurement skills Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
Able to adapt to changing tasks and conditions
Basic hand-tool knowledge
Must be 18 years of age or older
Possession of a valid driver’s license is an asset
Physically fit: able to lift 40–70 lbs frequently and up to 100 lbs occasionally with assistance
Comfortable working in remote areas and extreme weather conditions (12-hour shifts, day/night)
Willing to live in remote bush camps for extended periods
